Editing details

Sometimes the match is right and a detail is still wrong for you. TMDB lists Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’s 1985 English release as Warriors of the Wind. That’s an accurate record of a real release, and no other match would fix it. Edit details lets you overrule one field at a time.

If the item is matched to the wrong film or show altogether, fix the match instead; see Fixing matches.

You need to be an administrator, or have a role that allows correcting metadata.

  • On a tile in the library, open its ⋮ menu and choose Edit details….
  • On a film’s, show’s, episode’s or game’s page, open ⋮ and choose Edit details….
  • On a show’s page, each episode row has a pencil button that edits that episode, which is handy when you spot a wrong title while reading down a season.
Item Fields
Film Title, Sort title, Original title, Overview, Release date, Runtime (minutes), Tagline
Show Title, Sort title, Original title, Overview, Release date
Episode Title, Overview, Release date, Runtime (minutes)
Game Title, Sort title, Original title, Overview, Release date, Developer, Publisher, Players, Age rating

Seasons can’t be edited.

A few rules for the values:

  • Release date is written as yyyy-mm-dd, such as 1984-03-11.
  • Runtime is a whole number of minutes.
  • Title and Sort title can’t be left empty. Any other field can: saving it empty means “show nothing here”, which is how you get rid of a tagline you don’t want.

Change the fields you want and press Save. The new values show up everywhere straight away, including in search and in the library’s sort order.

Sort title decides where an item sits in the A–Z order. If you change the title and leave the sort title alone, the sort title follows the new title, with a leading The, A or An moved to the end.

A field you’ve changed is marked edited in the dialog. Press Revert beside it to throw your value away and go back to the provider’s, or to the one read from the file name for an item that never matched.

Your edits sit on top of whatever the provider says, so they last:

  • Rescans never overwrite them.
  • Refresh metadata fetches the provider’s details again and puts your edits back over them.
  • Fixing the match keeps them, even though the item now comes from a different entry.
  • Deleting and re-adding the library brings them back, because every edit is also written into the item’s match file beside the media. Edits to an episode are kept in its show’s match file.

That last one needs your media folders to be writable. On a read-only mount the edit still applies on this server; it just isn’t saved beside the media.

Editing details doesn’t change which film or show an item is, and doesn’t rename anything on disk.
